There was a time when Bhopal had not many problems to face but with the division of Madhya Pradesh into Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh the situation changed all of a sudden. The major electricity producing plants are located in Chhattisgarh despite of the fact that Madhya Pradesh is a much larger state as compared to Chhattisgarh. Now the situation is such that due to shortage of electricity there is a cut off of electricity in every city of Madhya Pradesh including Bhopal. This cut off is due to fact that the production of electricity is less than the consumption. Presently 4000 Mega watts of electricity is produced and 6000 Mega watts of is consumed. This extra electricity has to be bought by the Madhya Pradesh Government. After the construction of the Narmada Sagar Dam 1000 Mega watts of electricity will be provided.
